Award Winning Specialty Coffee
While this past year presented its fair share of challenges, a lot of opportunities arose. One such was an increase in the number of direct relationships we developed with coffee producers around the world. Amidst the chaos of the global pandemic and ensuing financial and supply chain struggles, many producers and small importers took it upon themselves and headed to roaster website contact forms, social media, and email to reach out directly to coffee roasters and establish connections. That is how we came across Criva Coffee.
Joselyn Perez and her husband Gio who founded Criva reached out to us via our website letting us know they had just received a harvest of their Costa Rican micro lots and offered to send us samples. We happily obliged and purchased a number of bags of two beautiful coffees grown by Minor Esquivel on their family farm, La Pastora.
Criva Coffee is based just down the road from us in Richmond, Virginia. Originally from Costa Rica, Joselyn and Gio have maintained strong relationships with family and friends who own and operate coffee farms in the famous coffee producing region of Tarrazú, whose pristine valleys and high mountain slopes make it an ideal location for growing beautiful coffees.
We are happy to be able to offer a very limited supply of two of their amazing coffees. A yellow honey processed lot that is fermented at high temperatures, then depulped to 30% before drying. This wonderful coffee showcases the inherent sweetness that the honey process brings out. We also sourced their natural processed lot that will be released immediately following the honey. This incredibly fragrant, exceptionally sweet coffee is yet another demonstration of how a well-managed natural process can produce sweet and clean coffees that challenge our notion of what coffee can be.
