Admired initially for its resilience against leaf rust, the variety traveled through research stations in Kenya and Tanzania before reaching Costa Rica in the 1950s—and eventually Panama. For decades, Geisha’s potential lay quietly in the wings, its low yields eclipsing the extraordinary flavor waiting to be revealed.
That changed in 2004. A Geisha lot from Hacienda La Esmeralda stunned judges at the Best of Panama competition with its luminous profile—floral tones, jasmine, tropical fruit—and shattered auction records. Panama became Geisha’s adopted home, offering volcanic soils, high elevations, and intricate microclimates that draw out its remarkable character.
Finca La Cabra: Our Window into Geisha
Geisha, for us, is more than a coffee—it’s a path. That path led us to the southeastern slopes of Volcán Barú, where our farm, Finca La Cabra, rises from rich volcanic soil into sun-drenched canopies.
