Award Winning Specialty Coffee
We take a regenerative approach to farming coffee at Finca La Cabra, Mudhouse's geisha coffee farm above Boquete, Panama. To us, that means restoring the soil all along the way, and it means taking care of our people who work on the farm. Practically speaking, restoring the soil as we farm is fundamental. Soil that is in balance and nutrient rich gives the coffee trees the strength and health to ward off and endure insects and disease and avoid the need to use unwanted chemicals.
The key way that we restore the soil is through composting the organic materials from the farm such as coffee cherry pulp and plant clippings mixed with food scraps and chicken manure that we breakdown in these 5 biodigesters that we built.

The biodigesters break down the organic materials into a concentrated compost that we mix with water to create a fertilizer solution. We then redistribute that naturally fertilized solution back across the farm in our fertigation system, a dual use irrigation system.

And that's just part of how we end up with happy trees full of these lovely coffee cherries
Here's wishing you a Happy Earth Day!
